Our History

Global Aid Projects began with firsthand experience on the ground. Our founder, Bryson, was working in refugee camps and with vulnerable communities around the world where he noticed a clear pattern: Local nonprofits know their communities’ needs better than anyone, but their work is often overshadowed and underfunded compared to larger international organizations.

When these major aid providers suddenly scaled back due to funding cuts from sources like USAID, it was the local groups who were left scrambling to fill the GAPs. Recognizing that vulnerable communities were too dependent on the ever-changing global opinions on humanitarian funding, Bryson teamed up with Bella, a Field and Operations Coordinator he had met at a refugee camp, to create a new kind of organization: one designed to strengthen, not replace, local efforts in order to increase independence and long-term project sustainability.

Thus, Global Aid Projects was founded to help support community-based organizations to fill the GAPs in aid through global funding, awareness, and program development tailored to urgent local needs. After connecting with several groups worldwide, one stood out: the La Pista settlement in La Guajira, Colombia, where local nonprofits were struggling just to keep their doors open. Bryson decided that La Pista was a fantastic place to kickstart this ambitious plan.

Since officially incorporating in August 2025, GAPs has achieved 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status. The team has been focused on building partnerships with local organizations in La Guajira and developing targeted projects to fill the most critical gaps in humanitarian aid. GAPs continues to expand its partnerships and reach, focusing on places where other organizations often can’t or won’t go, and on programs that bring measurable and sustainable change.
